I am troubled to hear that you had a bad experience at the shop the other day when you brought in your 2007 Honda Accord. I can see where you are coming from, based on the notion that your engine would be washed down, that you would be suprised to see any kind of grease or oil on the bottom of the engine when you took a look underneath the car.
I am also concerned to hear that you feel we were trying to be dishonest about the condition of your power steering pump. The technician merely heard a whining/grinding noise from the pump when moving the vehicle into the shop, as well as a stiff steering wheel, and brought up the possibility of it needing to be replaced at some point.
When you mentioned that the power steering fluid was flushed recently, he simply wanted to take a step back, and make sure that there was nothing out of place that we were responsible for. However, he was taking your word for it, and when we checked our records, there was a brake fluid flush performed on 9/4/24, but no power steering flush ever performed at our shop, nor was there any work ever done to the power steering system at our shop. The power steering fluid seemed to be leaking in addition to the engine oil. Once again, we needed to clean some of the sludge off the engine to determine what was leaking from where.
The engine wash down is performed with the intention of removing the thick layers of grease that form on an engine that has been leaking oil for quite some time. We cannot clean the engine to the point that it is spotless, because that would be very time consuming and would be cost prohibitve to the customer and thus not the best option to go with. We do rely on the dye to find the source of the oil leaks, in conjunction with getting the majority of the sludge off the outside of the engine. That way we can keep the labor charge to a reasonable amount, and still pinpoint the oil leaks.
In any case, I would be happy to refund you the $124.80 that you paid the other day. We are certainly not looking to rip off anybody, and we pride ourselves in being honest and trustworthy in how we treat our customers. The last thing I want is for someone to feel like they paid us their hard-earned money and did not get the service they expected.
