Company Motto: "We don't care if we made a mistake..."
We were in the market for a Hyundai Ioniq 5. We checked and compared prices from several dealers in St. Louis (where we live). We had the thought that perhaps if we looked farther out from St. Louis city we *might* find a lower price? We called and spoke with a salesman at Joe Machens Hyundai in Columbia, MO and, after a couple of phone calls, came up with a good price. Since we would have to drive two hours from our house to this dealership, I confirmed AT LEAST THREE TIMES what the price would be. I even asked for and received a text with the pricing break-down and the final price for the car. The text's price matched what was confirmed with the salesman again and again, so... great!

We made the two hour drive to buy the car. We arrived and took a test drive and then sat down to buy the car. Surprise!! "Oh... oops... I made a mistake. The price is now over $7,000.00 more." WHAT?? Umm, NO. Time for a manager. The manager sat with us and confirmed that, "yes, the salesman made a mistake. Sorry but let's still sell you the car for the new, higher price!" You might imagine several of the four-letter words we wanted to say. Well, Screw That! We walked out of the dealership and fumed over this trickery for our two hour drive back home.

So to anyone that wants to hear it, the warning is there! This dealership, knowing that you're driving a long distance to get there, sets up a BAIT AND SWITCH price with the hope that since you drove the distance you would go ahead and purchase the car. Now, knowing that the salesperson "made a mistake", you might think the manager would offer at least some sort of negotiation on the price? What a company might want to do to make things right after a proclaimed "mistake". ANY sort of consideration on the final price? ANY sort of compensation for a two hour drive and their mistake? Heck, how about fifty cents for a soda? A dime to buy some penny-candy? Something? Anything? Nope! Just smiles.

So beware!! If you think (as we did) that car prices might be "greener on the other side of the big city fence", this place isn't the place to go. This dealership seems to BAIT AND SWITCH their pricing and seems to prey on the hope that after a long drive the customer might settle for whatever price they decide to give you. That, or they don't give a rat's a$$ that they made a mistake, that you have texted proof, of a price, and that you verified the price at least three times. Avoid!

Don't ever buy a used car from here
When buying my used car from here in 2023 I repeatedly asked how old was the battery in the 2018 dodge journey because if it was old I'd like to know ahead of time so I could replace it before it quit working to which they said it was good. In July of 2023 I was trying to start my journey when nothing happened. Long story short I missed a day of work because I had to replace a battery dated 2013 it was 5 years old before the car was manufactured meaning it was old and they lied about the battery being good even though they checked on the window sticker that the battery was checked and told me it was

Terrible Experience
Joe Machens Hyundai replaced my air compressor in November, 2023 because my air conditioner quit working in September, 2023. This was an $1,100 repair. From November to May, 2024, I NEVER turned on my air conditioner, as it was not needed. In mid-May, 2024, I attempted to use my new air conditioner for the first time, but it did not cool at all. The service dept at Joe Machens Hyundai said I needed a new discharge hose, to the tune of $600+. Now, I believe they have great technicians working for them, however, I NEVER, ONCE, GOT TO USE MY NEW AIR CONDITIONER!! When the air compressor was replaced, you would think they would check all other aspects of a working air conditioner to assure all parts are installed and working properly. But, obviously this did not happen, so I opted to not allow Joe Machens Hyundai replace the discharge hose. Instead, I took it to a very honest, reliable repairman who tested and determined that the seal leading to the discharge hose needed replaced. (Now, I question whether or not my air compressor even needed replaced to begin with, as it was most likely the seal all along that needed replaced.) I am so glad I took my car elsewhere for repair, because now I have an exceptionally great working air conditioner and it didn't cost me $600. It is pretty obvious to me that every time I took my car to Joe Machens Hyundai, I was quoted another $600 repair, as this has happened before and seems to be their favorite number for auto repairs. I'm done with Joe Machens Hyundai as my "go to" for auto repairs. I was considering, in the future, purchasing another vehicle, but I will never purchase any kind of vehicle from Joe Machens.

Above and beyond
I’m not exactly a spring chicken and over my adult life I have bought quite a few vehicles. I rank the experience somewhere between a root canal and a colonoscopy. Today, however, was my best experience ever purchasing a CPO Hyundai Tucson Hybrid! My faith in car dealers has been restored. I did my research beforehand and knew what I wanted. I made an appointment with Kyle Johnson to test drive the vehicle. He was the most knowledgeable and helpful sales person I have dealt with. No pressure, no games, no nonsensical wearing me down with long waits. I got my KBB trade-in price, the new car price was just as advertised, and Kyle was supremely patient with my non-native technology questions. He took the time to walk us through every function and made the necessary arrangements for a second fob and to get some paint touch-up scheduled. He even came to our home on his lunch break to help set up the garage door opener function. That NEVER happens. Trey made the financing a pleasant experience, as well, going above and beyond to find the best APR. In short, this was the easiest and fastest experience I have ever had at a dealership. Machens Hyundai earned a customer and a positive conversation with anyone who will listen. Thanks to all!!

Top-notch sales & service
Over the past several months, I've had a consistently positive experience with the sales staff and the service staff at Joe Machens Hyundai. I appreciate their straightforward, no-nonsense approach, and they've demonstrated that they know their stuff. Their pricing and financial arrangements are fair and transparent, and both the sales staff and service staff are thorough in answering questions.

We have bought 3 cars from this dealer ship
On this 3rd car 2018 less then 60,000
We have inside light problems and they wouldn't fix shit
So that being said wouldn't be buying anything from them ever again
I'd stay away from this dealer at all cost.

Very disappointed with sales staff
I appreciated the courtesy we were given the day we bought a 22 Santa Fe Calligraphy. Another salesman offered to sell us his roof rack bars, it was a deal so I paid him that day. Sadly the bars were delivered without a key! Useless bars in my garage collecting dust. Now I have called and texted about this issue many times in the last 6 months, but no action has been done to resolve this!!
The vehicle needed to be checked in that day we were there. After being there all day, before we left the lot to drive back to K.C. there was a pretty shocking error message. So then we had to wait for mechanics to check it out. It was an 8 plus hour visit ?

I bought my car from here about 5 years ago. I really wanted to talk about Mark H in service. I had an issue with my motor that I had been dealing with. Once Mark took over, he made sure everything was taken care of for me. He kept me in the loop the entire time and listened to my frustrations. I hope this company knows what a great employee he is.

DISHONEST THIEVES
BEWARE!!! Added a $3500 warranty to my finance, welt bank the next day and they said they would remove it. Have the paperwork saying it was done but Months later, still hasn’t been refunded, I’m still paying for it. Hyundai finance says the dealership is the only one that can give the money back. Have called the sales manager multiple times, as well as the finance director Bruce. Can never reach them, leave messages every time but they’ll never even return my call. DISHONEST THIEVES, go elsewhere!!

Dishonest
My salesman was amazing but Trevor in finance is dishonest and will take advantage of your money. I bought my vehicle in March and still have yet to see my extended warranty cancelled that I was never told I was buying and I remember specifically turning down all additional add ons and warranties except the GAP insurance. Went home after my purchase and looked over paperwork and saw they financed my vehicle for an extra $4000 by hiding this bumper to bumper warranty I didn’t want. I immediately called to cancel this and get my money back and two months later nothing was done. I contacted multiple people and Jeff in sales to fill out another form and I still have nothing to show for this. No updates or communication even with the “expedited” cancellation. It’s now been 3 months of this back and forth crap and I don’t have my money.

Honest dealership experience...
I have told everyone who would listen that I will NEVER drive a Hyundai again. If I could afford to, I'd ditch my 2018 Sonata in a heartbeat. Why? Because I have had horrible service experiences with the dealership where I purchased it. This month, I chose to drive twice as far and get it serviced at Machens. Mark Hoffman was the face that greeted me and completely changed my opinion of dealerships. He listened to the issues I have been having and then told me the truth. He explained routine maintenance schedule items better than I've heard in 4 years. I left paying easily $500+ more than planned and was totally okay with the end result. I appreciate Mark taking a little extra time to be sure that I understood things and his patience when I needed it.

Nobody wants to deal with a car repair/recall notice, but this one went great from start to finish. Made the call to set-up the appointment and the service lady was extremely friendly & professional.
On the appointment day, we were greeted by the service center staff. They started the process of getting our car serviced while my son and I enjoyed coffee & snacks in the waiting area. The overall process was very timely and they also have recommendations of other routine service for the vehicle.

Mark went beyond to get me good service
At first, because the service tech was unable to duplicate the problem I'd described, I was told that they couldn't do anything. I didn't find this acceptable, so the service adviser Mark called Hyundai corporate customer service on my behalf and was able to get an authorization for an experimental remedy of the problem I'd been having. Time will tell if that took care of it, but I'm glad they were willing to pay for something.
