Bring back the original Chevy S-10
I bought this pick up with the V6 Vortec engine new in June 1998, off the lot with 19 miles on the odometer. My requirements when I set out were that I wanted a 5 speed, an extra cab for my mutts, and a GOOD RELIABLE engine. I got all I needed and then some! I'll be honest though, the heater core went out (at 28k) and I had a lot of problems with the warranty (and the local dealer, they were HORRIBLE with their service and maintenance..don't bother). Forget the crappy Delco batteries that come with it....DUMP it and get a better one (mine leaked 4x and the service dept failed to fix it until I demanded a new one). Inside plastic parts are junk. DITCH the original "spare" tire (more like spare bicycle tire), buy a real rim and use that as your spare. Way more safer. Finally, after the water pump went out at 31k (!), I got a new mechanic (see Autoplex Auto in Tempe, AZ), 254,500+ mi later (and many replaced parts), my truck AND ENGINE is running like a champ thanks to them! I've had NO engine problems. I've only had ONE clutch job in all that time (I baby this truck), I'll drive this truck until it keels over...then I'll get ANOTHER V6 Vortec engine and keep it. It's THAT good. Probably the only time I would go w/ Chevy though because it's been a good, reliable little truck for 18 years.
