Honda Odyssey 2008

No major repair on the vehicle until I hit over 200,000 miles (timing belt and alternator had to be replaced). Other repairs were just normal maintenance - replacement of headlights, tail lights, wiper blades, tires.

Odyssey

I love this van. This is my second. Had the first for 8 years and recent one for 10. It is so dependable, big and comfortable inside and the newest ones are full of the coolest new technology and design features. I look at other makes of cars for comparison and always come back to Honda. My rating below is for my current 2008 model, but if I had the newer ones, certain things would be higher.

No trades here!

Love the van and wouldn’t trade it except for a new one down the road! Reliability, comfort, ease of use and they go forever if you keep it serviced. Well over 300,000 miles without any major problems!

Good vehicle and workhorse

Has been a great vehicle until almost 100k, then it started to show its age; brakes, a/c, door latch, alternator...the rear brakes wasn't just normal wear, the caliper froze and torched the brake pads, disk and caliper.

This will be the best car you ever owned.

If you want a flexible car with lots of room. The Odyssey was meant for you. We take the middle seats out and have lots of room for our personal luggage and a dog bed for a large dog. We winter in Arizona and that this just the ticket for everything we lug down and back including the dog. This is our second Odyssey.

2008 Honda Odyssey EX-L

Purchased used with 40K miles. The car had a lot of road noise, which turned out to be bad wheel bearings. After changing them, the car ran well for the next 90,000 miles. After that it developed an oil leak (valve cover gaskets, and a knocking noise which was from the timing belt tensioner. Given the miles on the car, those are general maintenance items. I've also replaced the lower wishbones/ball joints and stabilizers. The car runs and handles pretty much like new. It's a very comfortable vehicle.

130,000 miles and drives like has 3,000. Makes driving a minivan not so bad!!

I bought it with 33,000 mi on the odometer, and I'd buy this thing over again in heartbeat. I have never had any major problems with this vehicle, and that's a testament to Honda manufacturing. Yes, I do my part and keep up on the preventive maintenance, but the quality and reliability are evident. After 130,000 mi everything still works like it should. The v6 sounds good and runs strong. Its a 2008 so its a little deficient on technology versus newer vehicles but is has climate control, basic voice commands and bluetooth and a rear dvd. This generation (2004-2010) of the Odyssey is excellent. We have a friend with a 2008 or 2009 with like 150,000 mi and he has the same experience. I'm not as familiar with the 2011-present generation, but when I test drove a 2014 it felt like the gearing was taller or something and it didn't have that low end pull. I could be wrong or the engine may no have been broken in. regardless, if you're in the market for a used vehicle and can get your hands on a clean copy of one of these don't hesitate.

The best SUV,, bikes, windsurfers , people

This is the second Odyssey i have bought new. This one has 150,000 miles on it now. It is the great vehicle. Parks in regular place . Drives like a decent car. The 6 cylinder engine is strong. I carry Windsurfers, or two bikes,,it is so great for bikes, leave them locked inside, take them somewhere, or my Girlfriends enormous family to San Francisco, so much better than a sedan or an SUV.

Still going strong

Honestly a very solid, reliable, quiet vehicle. All I have done is change the oil, add tires, brakes, filters....and then drive it. At 140,000 miles now and I need to replace a rear wheel bearing....but how can anyone complain about that. 140,000 miles and almost 10 years of use. Great car.

Flexible vehicle

The odyssey is and extremely flexible and reliable vehicle. It drives like a car, hauls cargo like a truck and can haul a family of eight. On top of that, the Honda engine and transmission is good for 200k+ miles!

I like most things about it.

I didn't pick out this vehicle, it was a gift from my brother -- very generous of him. There are things I really like -- the room, seats are fairly comfortable, good gas mileage for something so big. I don't like that it has recalls like the one I just fixed where a malfunctioning part could set the van on fire - a fuel filter problem of all things and who made it where you had to take out everything from behind the passenger seat back to change it? The parts are expensive and tires are an odd size - cost $800+ for winter tires, it sets low to the ground and there is no way to put a tow package on it that would not include removing the bumper. On the good side it has an enormous gas tank and I can go a long way before fill-ups. It handles pretty well and can go really, really fast :) The stereo speakers could be better but the CD/radio is nice. It really depends on what you do as to whether or not it is the right van for you. I would have liked adjustable lumbar support like my Mercury had, but the van is wide enough to put my inflatable mattress in. I can get a lot of stuff in it when I go buying for my business and the heater/air are great. I wouldn't buy this exact model again, but if I could afford another one and could get some custom things on it I might.
