Great PHEV with excellent mileage and true to range ratings!
The Ioniq PHEV is a great car. I chose this over the Prius primarily because of the lifetime (of original owner) warranty on the battery and the price. The dealership (Jerry's in Weatheford, TX) was great working with me to get a car. These were not sold in Texas and other local dealerships told me I couldn't get one or I would have to buy one in California and ship or drive it to Texas; Jerry's is opening the market in North Texas. After about a month, I've put 820 miles on the car and still have 3/4 of the original tank of gas. I start out daily with 29 miles of electric power and it is true to this. Other PHEVs use electric power faster on the freeway than on city streets, but the Ioniq doesn't. It's comfortable for a petite person like me and a tall person like my spouse. My car is fully loaded because there was something I really wanted in each package (and a few things I could live without in each package). I don't pretend to understand the media system yet and I haven't had time to read the manual. I had one experience where some warning lights came on (totally freaked me out), called Blue Link and they were very helpful. I was able to drive the car home and when I shut it off, apparently it reset and no more problem. Service guys were nice about it, but nothing to be done without warning lights. The vehicle can be set so that the charging plug locks in place and cannot be removed to avoid having the plug stolen. While this is a nice feature, it caused a little panic the first time I plugged in and couldn't get unplugged and almost late for work. Fortunately, we found the release and then I later read that this feature can be disabled (and it is now because I only charge at home). Things that would make this car nicer: the option to set the climate to cool or heat the car before departure, cooled seats (like the Sonata PHEV), easier opening and closing of the lift gate/trunk (spoiled by that foot wave that Ford offers), real colors (silver, white, grey, black and blue only - most of those are neutrals. Give us some real choices please!) I haven't used the Sport Drive feature yet - want to read the manual first. I plan to keep this car for a while, and am so glad to have Hyundai in the PHEV market and to have another PHEV option in Texas.
