Great car if we would not have had electrical issues

From the time that we drove the new 2012 Sonata off of the lot we had issues where it continued to have intermediate non starting issues. It seems to be some sort of bug in the security system were the lights would start flashing but the car would not start. We have had to pay for towing bills and service calls; where they could not find the cause of the problem. Now after speaking with an independent mechanic; who said the issue is most likely cause by either the security system or where the auto start system was installed before we purchased it new off of the lot. I did not mention that we have had to replace 6 head lights from where something was shorting out the lights. I was told this week that they with the help of the independent mechanic they agree with his assessment and it will cost me about another $300 to go in and do a final fix. After all of the tow bills, head lights we have replaced, and the times it has cased us to take off of work and school that they should show a good will jester to the final fix the problem. This was the 5th new Hyundai car that we have purchased. However due to all of our issues with this car (that has been such a lemon) we took Hyundai off our list and purchased a Toyota Camry this fall. I purchased 2 Hyundai's in 2007 but about 3 months ago felt that the issues of the Hyundai no longer made it a good choice to purchase.

Good car; Hyundai national poor

2012 Hyundai Sonata 2.0T: good vehicle; maintenance schedule designed by Hyundai is inane; navigation system ($3,000) is idiotic, my $350 Garmin with lifetime maps beats it hands down; Hyundai national does not listen; nor do they appear to be concerned about customer satisfaction!

2012 sonata

I have put 135,000 mostly trouble free miles on the vehicle since I purchased new in 2012. The areas of concern have been electrical issues in the dash since the vehicle was new and later issues with high oil consumption.

It’s a little sluggish and the paint job is not that good on the car it is piling off on the trim on top of the car and the front emblem and the leather seats don’t hold up ...

I love my car!

I fell in love with this car when I first saw it online and knew that I had to have it. It comes with all of the bells and whistles, but not a hefty price tag. It rides smooth and I always get compliments on the style of the car and the heated seats in the back! However, there have been at least 4 different recalls with this vehicle and that is time consuming, having to schedule days to stop by a dealership and have it fixed. It gets to be inconvient at times. I would still recommend Hyundai to others however, my husband just bought a brand new 2017 Tucson, hopefully, we have better experiences with that model.

Love my Sonata!!

I have had my 2012 Sonata for 3 years now. I love it just as much now as I did when I first bought it. I have had zero service issues with it as well. I made an excellent choice when I bought my car. The only service I have had to perform on it has been basic service plus a new battery. That's it! Thank you Hyundai!

Rating the 2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid

The style of the vehicle is excellent. The interior is roomy and the quality of the ride is good. The Hybrid has outstanding gas mileage. The only downside is the transmission, sometimes when increasing speed (around 40 MPH) or climbing a hill, the transmission feels like it is slipping. The engine rews up without the vehicle increasing speed (the same as rewing the engine in neutral).
