Showed great promise, several major failures

Because we have solar panels on our roof, the promise of getting much of the power for our everyday drives for free made this plug-in hybrid sound perfect. Though that promise has generally been fulfilled, other issues have marred the experience to the point that I don’t thing we’ll want to buy this when our lease is up. Specifically what marred our experience? Failed sensors. Twice, on road trips during the first year of our lease, sensors in the car failed that altered how the car drove. We stopped at a dealer in a large city and were told that it would be 3 days to diagnose it, then repair time would be whatever extra days it took. Fortunately the issue allowed us to still drive the car hesitantly home. On the other road trip, the oxygen sensor that failed affected how the car drove, making the acceleration cut out intermittently on the freeway. Another issue that has happened multiple times is that the 12V battery that runs the security system, lights, etc., drains to zero if the car sits for a few days or is accidentally left on. This yields a vehicle that is not only dead, but won’t waken with e-charging. Instead, you must gain entry to the locked car by manual methods in order to release the hood and jump or charge the battery with another car or typical battery charger. Charging it successfully is compounded by unclear photos in the manual attempting to show where to connect clips in the fuse box since the battery is not actually under the hood, and the difficulty of determining the type of 12V battery in the car: absorbed glass mat or lead acid. I had to open up the rear to determine this since the manual was not helpful. Opening the locked rear involves a circus act of dropping a rear seat, removing everything stored in the rear by reaching through that seat opening, then (on your belly) attempting unsuccessfully to use the manual key to release the back hatch, crawling out backwards and finding a flat-blade screwdriver that actually has a chance to release the hatch, and then releasing the hatch. Next, you remove the back compartment covering, then pull out the rigid foam storage thing, then look at the battery to determine what type it is, which is well hidden on a label beneath a frame that holds the battery in. We’re also disappointed to need to replace the soft “buy this car” tires after just over one year of use (and still under the 10k miles per year).

Love the car design and plug in range but recalls have caused issues

I love the layout and design of the car, and the convenience of having both a plug in electric vehicle and a gas hybrid. The lower rating had to deal with the recalls I have had, once of which created a pretty severe safety issue. There was a problem with the computerized dashboard- it would go black with no warning and so you weren't aware of your speed or how much charge you had remaining. I took it in once to fix this ( and they found another recall about the front camera) but a week later, similar problem occurred so I had to take it back a second time. Hopefully, this is the last time!

Needs improvement

The engine performance is satisfactory. The milage estimates are accurate. The 34 miles of all electric are inadequate. The electric miles cover just over a day of errands around town. As electricity rates nationwide are increasing, this results in an increase in charging, which reduces the economic benefit of the vehicle. On the interior, the drive mode shifter on the center console is poorly located. It can be bumped and unintentionally changed by a reach for other controls on the dash. The close proximity of the headlight and blinker/wiper controls to the steering wheel is a problem if you are wearing winter gloves or mittens. The paddle shifter in this area also reduces spacing between the controls and the steering wheel.

One vehicle "Does It All"

Our 2025 Tucson plug-in hybrid (TPIH) is now our only vehicle. (We turned in our leased 2023 Ionic6, just because we didn't need 2 cars anymore and wanted our garage back). The TPIH is ideal for us. It charges from our solar/battery system so costs almost nothing to operate. We love its smooth, quiet but sufficiently powerful drive (no, not as quick as the Ionic6 .. but fast enough for older folks). It handles roads, freeways and CURBS with ease. We especially appreciate and use its many safety/comfort features. Rear cameras. Line keeping. Collision detection. Distance keeping. ONLY ONE ISSUE here is - when detection of the lane is lost there SHOULD BE AUDIO and TACTILE ALERTS .... PLEASE HYUNDAI. We use navigation from our phone's Google maps broadcast on the car's screen. It's a bit better than the 'native' map system. The heating system seems a tiny bit weak but we've never really tested it given where we live in San Diego. Overall it is an ideal car .. for us.

A all around excellent car. One minor problem of a bad 4WD sensor took too long to remedy but that was the only problem experienced.

My Tucson

I enjoy driving this vehicle especially for the tech , except the very wonky keyless entry from my phone. I also like having the ability to drive most days on battery and for longe trips or trips where ther is limited charger availability- the hybrid feature works very well.

Great Except For Some Electrical Issues

Great vehicle in every way except for persistent intermittent electrical issues. The camera system keeps dropping out on an almost daily basis. Unfortunately it doesn't stay out, making it virtually impossible to fix. Very annoying when trying to get into a tight parking space. If it ever stops working consistently, we'll immediately take it to the dealer.

Everything but the color

My car is very comfortable and efficient. That’s all I ask besides loving the way it looks. This model has only average colors. Nothing with pizazz. My previous car was a Santa Fe in that beautiful sienna orange. It suited my personality. This does not and may force me to replace it sooner than later.

A fuel efficient PHEV with ample space

My PHEV Tuscon has averaged 46 MPG for the 8,000 miles I've had it. The car has ample space and handles well. It is not without flaws; most minor. that said, I enjoy driving the car and am happy to be getting great fuel economy. It does help that I have solar panels on my house so the electricity used to charge my batteries is "free".
