2022 Ascent Lease
The car buying experience has never been a good one for us but we were pleasantly surprised when we leased our very first Subaru. We were never pressured and our salesperson listened to our needs. She is offered solutions and kept us honest when there were no other options. Although we were at the dealer for a few hours it didn’t feel like it and the finance process was quick and easy. This was by far the best experience we’ve ever had when leasing a new car. Thank you.

Eastside Subaru service department
DON"T GO FOR SERVICE WORK AT EASTSIDE SUBARU !
1. Made an online appointment for a THURSDAY a.m. engine diagnostic/automatic transmission appt. on my 3-day weekend. Should be plenty of time for them to figure out why my engine stalls intermittently when going into reverse when cold air temps outside. I wanted the factory EXPERTS to diagnose/troubleshoot the problem with the transmission, maybe offer an AT fluid change, check the inhibitor switch, control valve solenoids, something...
2. Showed up, no record of my vehicle ever having been there despite having warranty work done there in the past.. (OK, no big deal.)
3. Service rep noted my VIN# and that my car had a salvaged title though, without me telling them...so, they had some record??
4. When asked if I would hear from someone later or the next day they stated, "Maybe, we're short staffed and the diagnostic tech isn't due in until Monday". I said, 'that's four days before someone can look at it, why allow me to schedule the appointment and leave me without a vehicle all weekend? "Well, I can squeeze it in this afternoon or tomorrow, I will be in touch with you". We had another car so at this point I said ok, this may become inconvenient, but I want to solve this issue. (No offer for a loaner at this point, salvaged title remember..)
5. Next Day (Fri) I have to call to check on car, service rep is OOO, so I talk to someone who knows nothing about my car. They call me back in the p.m. and read me the mechanics notes. "The mechanic stated there is a slight stumble on acceleration(I never noticed this) and the AT shows a little slippage when hooked up to the scanner, they recommend a full service ($1250), oil change, spark plugs, air filter, and throttle body cleaning to help with the stumble on acceleration". "They also recommend replacing your AT" ($8500). "What about servicing the AT first" I ask, "We don't do that, they are sealed units, we just replace them"
So I got a quote for 10k... on a car 6 years old with 91k miles.

The mechanic didn't notice the oil change sticker from the week before, that the air filter was brand new, or ask if I had ever done the spark plugs?
The throttle body was sparkling clean, I had looked at it when I did service the week before already.
Nope, just throw a service at it for $1200...

And about that sealed non-serviceable transmission...
Subaru Canada and Subaru Japan both recommend AT service intervals ON THE SAME MODEL TRANSMISSION which includes inspecting if not changing the AT fluid. Subaru AT's have service plugs for this work.
The control valves and solenoids are also serviceable on these AT's.
Unfortunately I think Subaru is fleecing Americans with this predatory practice and instilling a throw away mentality by listing these items as non-serviceable.

What it came down to is Eastside Subaru and Subaru US wanted me to spend 10k on a car I paid 15k for. Who with brains would do that?
No, what they want to do, is sell me/you a new car, as in, that "salvaged title" or that "out of warranty" car is not serviceable, we'll was quote you for a repair cost that was 75% the cost of the car, in a predatory practice of instilling doubt and fear in customers to influence sales.
Eastside Subaru Service Department wanted to walk me across the building to the sales office instead of asking questions or actually trying to diagnose a problem with my vehicle.

Also ironically, when picking up my vehicle 3 days later a lady walks in behind us with a new Outback having battery issues, approximately 3-hour wait for her the service, and they offered her a loaner..on a Saturday!(she still had a warranty I guess..)

In conclusion, Eastside Subaru Service Department does not know how to diagnose or do troubleshooting on their vehicles. This is not that type of shop. They can do service interval work and warranty repairs, but if it goes beyond that, they just want to sell you a new car.

Take your vehicle to a reputable non-dealer Subaru certified mechanic for real troubleshooting, repairs.

Everyone was wonderful and super helpful!
Purchasing a car during COVID is much different for sure. But working with Justin to get a car as soon as possible was super easy and he was super up front with what we needed to do and what docs they needed. He also he kept me updated about when it was coming which was great and I didn't have to wait very long at all :)! I also want to extend a thank you to Bree and Lena. I scheduled my appointment online, dropped off my car at 0630, and left my key fob in the drop box. I picked up my car at 1700, was immediately greeted and taken to the cashier. While I reviewed and paid the invoice, my car was brought around to the front for me, and I drive home. I could not ask for better service!!

Quick and Easy
The process itself in buying a car was pretty easy. I set-up an appointment for a test drive online and showed up a few days later. Obviously due to the pandemic the exact cars on the lot are essentially their loaner cars but they did have the same year/model I was looking for to test drive and some similar models to get a feel for it. I did go in with the expectation of buying this car to begin with as I've been window shopping for a few months now. Mark was very helpful in answering all my questions and we found a car that'd be arriving in a few weeks that I'd like. When the car arrived I scheduled a time to come by and give the actual car a drive and of course I loved it. Had the paperwork done in about 90 minutes and was on my way. Thanks again guys.

Poor receptionist and communication
The receptionist didn’t pay attention to me. Mechanic didn’t do a good job. Everything was not done to a good standard. When I dropped off my car I told them that my battery was dead. I made sure to tell them this. But I didn’t see them write anything down. Then when it came to pick up my car, they called me and said I can pick it up with 5 minutes until they close. When they tried to bring the car upfront, the car didn’t start. So I had to go home without my car, even after giving them $1000. And said my car will be ready by Monday at 7:30am. But they’re closed on sundays…so how did they have time to check anything? Then they call me Monday morning and said the battery needed replacing….but that’s something I already told them in the very beginning. So the receptionist wasn’t listening to me. It’s frustrating to see that the receptionist didn’t communicate or listen to me well.

No pressure and right to the point.
I had chosen what car I wanted before any interaction with this dealer. They were the only place which had the Subaru Crosstrek that I wanted. Ben was the person we spoke to and worked with. After purchasing 6 cars previously in my life, I was not looking forward to the hassle of dealerships! I was relieved to experience no hassle, no bullshit and straight forward answers. My time was important to them and I was done within 2 hours. So far I love the auto and will refer anyone looking for a car to go to this dealership. 5 stars
