This situation began when my car was in for a warranty catalytic converter replacement (from a previous engine failure—a well-known occurrence among Hyundai’s) and I decided to take proactive steps to ensure my safety following Hyundai’s latest brake recall. I was terrified at the thought of brake failure and expressed my concerns multiple times to my service advisor. He repeatedly assured me everything was fine. To gain peace of mind, I opted to have the brake fluid flushed, thinking it would provide an opportunity to ensure everything was in top condition.
However, during the service, their technician made an error, requiring me to pay to replace my rear calipers due to their oversight. Mistakes happen—fine. I’m willing to move on, as long as my car is safe. After the repair, I asked—multiple times and in writing—whether my vehicle was safe to drive. I was assured it was.
But as soon as I picked up the car, I immediately noticed something was wrong. As a non-mechanic, if I could tell there was an issue, why couldn’t the trained professionals? It turned out I needed new engine mounts, an issue that should have been flagged during the service. I let it go and moved forward.
Now, I’ve discovered that the repair I was forced to pay for due to their mistake was done incorrectly and has been leaking fluid ever since. The very situation I was trying to avoid—brake failure—has now become my reality, all because of their negligence.
When I called the dealership to address this urgent safety concern, I was asked to leave a message for the service director, clearly stating it involved a repair their team performed. Hours passed with no response. I called again, only to be passed to someone named Steven (sp?). Rather than treating my safety concern with the urgency and seriousness it deserved, he dismissed it entirely. He was rude, dismissive, and unwilling to take any responsibility for the mistakes that have now jeopardized my safety.
This lack of accountability and disregard for customer safety is appalling. Hyundai’s negligence has put my life at risk. Despite their reassurances, my brakes are failing due to their faulty work or parts, and I’m left with no resolution and mounting frustration.
No customer should ever be treated this way, especially when their safety is at stake. Hyundai advertises itself as a reputable, trustworthy brand, but this experience has been anything but. Their corporate team, in contrast, was far more professional and compassionate, but the dealerships? Completely unacceptable.
I genuinely hope they step up and make this right. In the meantime, I’m doing everything in my power to hold them accountable. If you value your safety and your peace of mind, I strongly urge you to think twice before entrusting your vehicle to this dealership.
