Worst Service
Took my car in for a warranty repair to which I was told they would have it for a day. It was almost a week and I didn’t have my car or a rental. Basically was told I’m on my own. Took calling the service manager Joe and getting into a yelling match with him to finally get a rental. Go to pick up my car once it’s done and magically have a loose tie rod and broken adjuster. My car had no issues other than the engine knocking which was the only thing noted on paperwork. How does a car go in with no problems and come out with two? And now I have to pay out of pocket for their mistakes. Spoke to manager again and he is awful. I would never want him to be in charge of any business. He is rude and unprofessional and basically told me it’s my fault. I will never recommend them and will tell everyone to steer clear

I scheduled a service appointment online on the 28th on Jan & confirmation for 2/4/2021 for 2:30 pm & when i get there 10 min before 2:30 pm not only i check in but i wasn't in the system SMH then they said they going to try to squeeze me in which "WHATS TO SQEEZE IN?!?!" i scheduled appointment...They assume the car wasn't bought as new which i paid $99 something for a oil service WHICH not only i did brought it NEW but as warranty 3 yrs or 36,000 it should be $34.78 SMH...My tires wasn't pressure at least 34 psi on all 4 tires, next day i had to add air at Kroger before work, it was flagged as low.Yes i still Recommend Nielsen to a friend to get a Hyundai or a KIA but they gotta improved Website completion/confirmation to those dealers,I "Literally" had to look up my emails by my Iphone to back up my story .... :( JUST to check-in :(

Terrible.
UPDATE 10/22/2020: My car is back in my possession with an engine replacement who completed the service work (not Nielsen). Multiple scarring in cylindrical walls and metal shavings made their way through my engine. This was a known issue with certain engines in the Hyundai lineup and my original suspicions when I brought the car to the Nielsen's originally. The dealer is not sure how this was missed during my original diagnostics at Nielsen's considering they are Hyundai certified mechanics and *should* have seen this. Since the warranty has been straightened out, all of this repair work was covered by Hyundai under their 100,000 mi/10 year original owner powertrain warranty. At this writing, I still haven't receive my "paperwork in the mail" that was promised by Nielsen's service department a few weeks ago and I doubt that it will ever come. The dealership should just be honest - they overbooked their department and didn't have the staff to do the job. I gladly would've taken my car somewhere else. Don't hold my car for 4 days when your associate told me 2 days to complete, then are unable to tell me what's going on, and finally when I opt to take it somewhere else change their position from "there's a definite lifter problem" to "there's no problem." This isn't a large shop, so I find it irritating that they "don't know what's going on" with a car that is literally within 100' of them. I'm still not sure what was done on my car while it was in their possession for 4 days after diagnosing a "lifter" problem.

UPDATE 10/15/2020: Took my car to another reputable dealer. They determined that my engine warranted replacement. They worked it out with Hyundai and repair is underway. I still can't believe how this shop can diagnose a "bad lifter", then diagnose "there's no issue." I'd question what certification level this shop has.

Original Review:
Terrible. How can you not know what’s going on with a car that’s been in your shop for four days? You’re not a huge operation. It takes two minutes to ask a service tech if they even started on it. This explains why there seems to be continual turnover in their service department. They diagnosed a bad lifter, submitted a quote for 12 hours @ $129/hr, plus $200 for parts and then get approval from Hyundai to perform it as a warranty repair. Then... the car sits in your shop for 4 days (when I was told 2 day turnaround), no one can tell me what’s going on with it or if it’s even been started. Seriously? Then, when I say I’ll just take it elsewhere, the tech magically took it out for a test drive and couldn’t find anything wrong. The “bad lifter” that was diagnosed, quoted, and submitted to Hyundai didn’t fix itself. To top it off - this is the 2nd time we’ve left this dealership without proper service paperwork. This time the excuse was that they’d have to mail it. So wait - you finished working on my car, couldn’t find a problem, and don’t have time to document that? I'm sure they will "mail" my paperwork and when it doesn't arrive in a few weeks, it'll be that it "got lost in the mail."

This is sketchy. Do yourself a favor and go to another Hyundai dealership. I suspect that they may be a great shop for an oil change, but that’s probably about all they can handle.

I can’t believe I had to go through Hyundai Consumer Affairs to find out what’s going on with my car, when they said they’d call me back last Thursday and Friday (and never did).

Mr. Kadar we mailed the receipt to you yesterday.  Our error.  As far as repairs went etc. there was a case opened (#17275797) with Hyundai and we reported to them our findings and those findings did not warrant further work at the time.  Not sure what else we could have done.  Glad to hear your car is repaired now.

SUPERB CUSTOMER SERVICE
I love the Hyundai Dealership in Michigan City Indiana. Everytime I've entered the building to get my car serviced, staff were super friendly and very helpful. They made sure my vehicle needs were met and even went beyond expectations on some services.
This is definitely the type of Dealership Courtesy that every customer should experience Any day, All Day and Every day!!!
