The vehicle of a lifetime...Really
My truck is a 1999 F-350 Super Duty, which I bought in 2014. This is the third Ford Diesel pickup that I have owned and the first one I bought used. I bought my second truck, a 2006 F-350 off the Ford showroom floor. It looked nice and had lots of power, but it only got 12 MPG and it seemed that something was always in need of repair. I was at Grainger on Molloy Road and my phone rang out of the blue from the same place I bought the 2006. The guy told me "you've got to stop by and see what we just took in". So I did. When I got there, they showed me a 1999 F-350 Super Duty, black over silver with a 5th wheel setup and an ARE cap on the long bed. It had very little rust and 146,000 original miles. It had 1 owner and was used to haul a 5th wheel trailer to Florida and back once a year. So when that 2006 started burning coolant due to an EGR valve failure, I eventually traded it in on my 1999. Although the engine does have an electronic control module, it does NOT have an exhaust gas re-circulation valve, or a catalytic convertor and does NOT require diesel emission fluid. I've been driving this truck regularly and have put over 100,000 miles on it. I have driven this truck on several long trips and I wouldn't hesitate to drive it all over the country. It is BY FAR the best vehicle that I've ever owned. If any of you have ever seen the movie "Used Cars" you'll remember that Jack Albertson's character in the film wanted to be buried in a 1957 Chevy. When it's my time, I want a big hole dug and I'll go 4 wheelin' off into eternity in my bulletproof dream truck!
