Great car but….

It’s a great car for local driving and not having to pay for gas, especially with the 2 year free charging with Electrify America. I would say it is not worth it after 2 years. The car price + charging costs would not be worth it. Not great for highway driving as battery depletes fast with speeds at +60mph. There are a lot of rattles, it is incredibly annoying. It’s a great looking car and has some excellent features but also some annoying ones. Having a bike rack on the back is a pain as the car senses an object behind the vehicle and applies emergency braking. You need to turn that function off every time before going into reverse. Annoying! USB-A charges everywhere and nowadays mostly everything is USB-C. No wireless CarPlay which is crazy. A basic Toyota Corolla has that. The data port for the cable to plug your phone in for CarPlay is near the floor next to the gas pedal. There is no good place to put your phone. Annoying. A plus is that it charges faster than most others EVs we notice at the charging stations. We look forward to no charging costs for the next year and dreading the charging costs for the last year of our lease. We look forward in general to the lease being over so we can get a different vehicle.

Amazing electric SUV

Such a fun, comfortable and safe ride. I love how well it handles, accelerates, how smoothly it drives, and all the interior features are great. Wonderful for a road trip from SLC to Pacific, and great for adventures in the mountains (on road) and weekly commute and running kids around.

Favorite vehicle I’ve ever owned

I feel for this vehicle hard over time. The residual braking paddle shifter system is my favorite feature, and is superior to other auto manufacturers I’ve tried with the same feature. I would absolutely recommend it if you can afford it.

Great commuter car -- better than Tesla or Rivian.

Great car. Also includes buttons (radio, climate) in addition to the screen. The screens are built in (natural). I tested other EV models -- Love this car. Great pickup (merging, onramps, passing). Storage spots for my stuff. Very practical and dependable car. Best as a commuter car. For long distance, I'd like a few adjustments. Back seats have generous legroom and can recline a bit. The car was overly expensive.

nice ride- great features. ergonomically very well designed. Attractive car. Problems- 12v battery charging is an issue- also can't figure out how to monitor the charge on the 12v battery. Need a car with greater range.

Best car ever!

I’ve enjoyed my Ionic for 1 full year and glad I made the switch to Hyundai. It’s a smooth and fun ride, comfortable and beautiful interior, with great features! Even though I’m still learning all it can do, I feel safer in it and can also haul things. Best car ever!

Exceptional, love it!

This is my first EV and I love it! Only complaint is no rear windshield wiper or cleaning fluid. Otherwise it’s a pleasure to drive - it’s a very smooth ride. It’s got a lot of power and you can drive at higher speeds and it’s very smooth ride up to 80 mph. It’s an exceptional car.

I recommend strongly this car to my relatives

This car has a good quality as described from manufacturer. I drove over 100000 miles now but battery is still working properly like 330 miles range after full charge and I have not have any problem with this car yet.

IONIQ 5 Owner/operator

2024 IONIQ 5 limited owner, Matt Black W/21” rims. Beautiful car, drives great, handles amazing. Loaded with features good and bad. Led lights are nice but waste electricity. Interior starting to look real weathered on door especially. Only downside is average miles per charge. Hyundai claims up to 322 miles but I’ve never gotten over 300 since purchase. Provided 30 mins free charging from Electrify America are great when there not busy, which lately is never. Not enough 150W chargers available in NJ beach areas, makes long trips not ideal.

Serious Safety Hazard

Whenever we drive this vehicle on the highway for longer than 60 miles at highway speeds a turtle pops up on the screen and the gas pedal stops working. The car shuts down on the highway. Hyundai has known about this issue since January 2024 and does not care. Do not buy this car and stay far away from Hyundai.

Great Car

I often ride with a friend who owns a Tesla model Y. I like my Ioniq 5 far better. It is more comfortable, the doors are easier to access and the interior features are better. I do not like the Tesla's centered screen as it takes the driver's eyes off the road. I like having the main information (speed, charge, lanes, alerts, etc.) directly in front of me. I would like to have both more time before the hands on the wheel warning comes on and a more sensitive touch on the wheel to let the system know I am alert.

I LOVE My Hyundai IONIQ5!

Excellent features for my first all electric vehicle. Range varies with driving speed but I average 265 KW. The proce has reduced quite a bit in the year since I purchased. I paid 60k for this vehicle.

Beware: Rear wheel drive failure!

When driving at rapid speeds over longer periods of time (1-2 hours), the rear wheel motor overheats and stops functioning. When this occurs, only the front motor still operates, but does so at limited power capacity and hesitates 1-2 seconds upon acceleration, thereby causing a “jerking” motion when you press the accelerator pedal. The problem persists until you stop the car and let it rest to bring the motor temperature back down, then it goes back to normal. However, if you continue on your journey driving continuously at higher speeds (65 MPH or greater), it happens again. Upon further research, it appears that the rear motor electric oil pump malfunctions at higher temperatures and stops working altogether, causing the rear wheel motor to fail. This is a serious safety issue. We have been battling our local dealer service shop as well as our Hyundai customer service case manager for 2 weeks now with no resolution. The dealership shop claims they cannot reproduce the issue and say there is no problem. Other owners have reported this issue on owner forums for both the RWD and AWD models. Those who own the RWD models lose all power to the vehicle! These other owners have also detailed their struggles with dealerships and Hyundai trying to prove the problem and get it fixed. I have logged a safety complaint with the NHTSA and will be hiring a lawyer and filing a lemon law claim if Hyundai does not repair the defective part in a timely manner. There should be a recall for this, but there isn’t.

Roomy

Roomy with draw backs. Fun to drive and eady to handle. Needs rest window wiper, rear ventilation and ubs ports. Drive assist system is annoying at best. Otherwise great car to drive city or highway. I enjoy it for the most part.

Pleasantly surprised

I was apprehensive about buying an all electric vehicle. In the beginning I did suffer from the dreaded range anxiety but that quickly dissipated after acclimating to the Ioniq 5. It has brought a lot of peace and quiet as well as a comfort level that I have never experienced with any other car. Very pleased with my decision and would definitely buy again!

Excellent driving dynamics and range; terrible electronics and controls

My Ioniq 5 is fast, frugal, nimble, and gorgeous. But I will almost certainly not renew my lease or purchase one. Why? The driver assists are unreliable to the point of being dangerous. "Over the air" updates to software for my 2023 model are a myth. Simple controls are buried deep in menus, some infotainment controls are missing or confusing, and the HVAC system is a huge step back from my previous car - a $16,500, 2007 Honda Fit... The charge port is located on the rear right panel, making it VERY hard to attach a cable, even in my driveway. The rear hatch sensor is so sensitive it's impossible to fully pack the trunk. So, despite the car being over two feet longer than my Honda Fit, I can fit less in the Ioniq. My wife drives a 2021 Hyundai Kona EV which has none of these problems, showing that Hyundai could easily remedy these flaws, some annoying, some dangerous.

Great EV performance

Terrific performance and styling. Appointments are commendable. Needs rear window wiper as spray and rain on window are a safety/performance factor. Current model year has this feature on the N model, should be a retrofit to earlier models.

Crazy dysfunctional alerts

It was a great car until 4 months all of the warning buzzers and lights started going off all the time. Took it to the dealership 4 times, 2 moths without my car. Hyundai corporate support is also dysfunctional like the car.

Very nice car!

Fit and finish are great, car is very quiet. comfortable, feature-laden, reasonably good handling for a car this size and weight. If one drives reasonably, its range is good. Infotainment system is good, not great. Car has been free from almost all defects.
