Unexpected surprise!!
The unexpected surprise is that I purchased the Ioniq. I went to a car show looking for station wagon knowing there are not to many on the floor. As I entered the show, I saw 'this' shape. The rear roof line coming down to the back seemed interesting. I approached the car and lifted the hatch. I noted that if I lowered the seats in the rear and the right passenger seat, I'd have an acceptable amount of space to carry 'long' items such a lumber. (I would prefer a roof rack on this car.) I discussed the car with a Hyundai agent never expecting I'd purchase a Hyundai. One feature I never expected was that it was a Hybrid. Several weeks later, when I was on vacation, I was able to drive the Ioniq at a dealer. I was astonished at how well the Hybrid performed. I had never driven a Hybrid and noted that the car drove very well. I also noted the miles per gallon as I drove the car around the area. After several miles I returned it to the dealer. When I was home I went to a dealer that my 'in-laws' had used to purchase the car. I talked to a salesman about the vehicle and I made a purchase. My unexpected surprise is, I never expected that I'd ever purchase a Hybrid let alone a Hyundai. I just went over 7,500 miles and it is a pleasure to drive. I drive locally and I take long day trips as well. (200 - 300 miles a day) My miles per gallon indicates, on average, over 62 MPG. Actually indicated is within 4 MPG both over and under. One 5 day trip approx. 2,000 miles gave us 60,5 MPG indicated and within 4 MPG actual. When I went for my service I arrived at the dealer with the indicator showing 70.7 MPG. The trip indicator was at 180 miles on that tank of gas. (All numbers can be found in my log.)
