2013 Hyundai Sonata turbo - LE Saphire blue with tan leather upholstery

My only bad complaint with Hyundai is they won't communicate with me as to a problem that is very minor and Hyundai should fix it for me. IE: the two pieces of black vinyl on both rear doors are cracked. This should have been a recall a long time ago. If I have this problem, so do many other owners of this 2013 Sonata LE vehicle. Please help!!!!!

2013 Sonata

I love my Sonata this is my second one. I use this as my commuter car. Very reliable I drive 85 miles one way to work. So I put a lot of miles on my car. I change the oil every 5000 miles and have had zero issues with this car. Great value for the cost.

Average Import

Build quality is on par with other imports of this size. Comfort level and low cabin noise are very good. Extremely smooth and quiet ride. The MPG is a bit misleading. The stated 24/35 is more like 20/30 and I have split commute time in both city and highway driving so my MPG is more indicative of actual results. I bought my 2013 Sonata brand new and within a few thousand miles the engine developed a mild 'ticking' sound but it was intermittent. My research revealed that my model year had a poorly designed Cam Chain Tensioner and would result in the occasional ticking sound (mostly at idle). I contacted Hyundai and they were aware of the condition and basically said, "If it isn't broken, we won't fix it". That was a bad PR move on their part as I've had several people ask me for car recommendations and I cautioned them to stay away from Hyundai products and look elsewhere, such as Honda and Toyota. The car also has some rather large blindspots at the A pillar (Front windshield and door frame ) and the C pillar (between the two doors). One last item that is a drawback is the premature front tire wear. In researching several blogs and forums it seems that everyone is experiencing this. My past experience as a design engineer for a leading wheel alignment/balancing manufacturer had me questioning the front end geometry of this car. I utilized my CAD software and built a model of the front end geometry and found that the recommended Camber for my vehicle (Zero degrees) was way off. The only adjustment available on the Sonata is for Toe. Camber and Caster are set at the factory and are not adjustable (who at Hyundai came up with THAT erroneous decision??) I had a local mechanic install some offset camber bolts which allowed me to move the Camber to -1.0 degree'. My CAD simulation revealed that a camber of -1.25 degrees was better, so I had him grind out the strut mounting holes (making the holes into slots) and that gave me a final Camber of -1.20 degrees. Tire wear issues were gone and there was even a marked improvement in cornering ability! Beyond those few complaints the car handles well, exhibits a nice, smooth quiet ride (everyone comments on how quiet the cabin is), and if I'm REALLY careful and feather the throttle I can coax 28-30 MPG as an average. I give the 2013 Sonata a 4 out of 5.

Great vehicle

One of the best rides I’ve had. Comfortable and fun to drive looks nice and has been reliable, minor issues were taken care of, no worries at all. Would definitely recommend giving Hyundai a try, I was pleasantly surprised.

2013 Hyundai Sonata Limited 2.0T review

At the time I was looking for a well priced, well equipped, reliable, fuel efficient, midsize sedan with enough power to never have to worry about not being able to overtake on a pass and my criteria narrowed it down to a 2011-14 Hyundai Sonata Limited 2.0T. The ride quality is good and probably among the best of the entire Hyundai lineup for the 2011-14 year range (although not as good as the improvements Hyundai has made in recent years but I will not compare a used car to a brand new one for its unlikely to be cross shopped that way anyway) and likely will be satisfying for most. Overall the build quality of this car for this year range is quite good. No panel gaps, paint is great, everything is styled while keeping functionality in mind. There is no cost cutting that is important enough to complain about at the current price ranges being offered for this car on the used /cpo market. The performance I feel is more than adequate for most drivers as this version of the Theta II turbocharged motor puts out the most power it ever did including the 2.0T Hyundai engines of today. I do wish that Hyundai would include a limited slip differential (LSD) in their higher output models as driving in the snow there is noticeable wheel spin due to the torque and an LSD would help manage power to the ground. Overall though for a midsize sedan the power should be adequate and the handling is fairly good for what it is. The fun to drive factor can be viewed as good as the power and lack of an LSD gives the car some character when driven with enthusiasm. The steering is direct but is a bit numb and I wish it had a tighter turn ratio for the steering wheel (although the cars actual turn radius is impressive for its size). The 6 speed automatic transmission is smooth and there are paddle shifters and a manumatic mode if you would like to shift yourself adding to some fun. In true Hyundai tradition and with this being the top trim this car has all available features for the time era and with the exception of a dedicated "Sport Mode" (something now commonly offered on Hyundai's) and ventilated seats (became available 2014) I do not find much else to be missing from desired features. Panoramic sun roof, heated seats front/rear, power driver seat, dual climate control, premium audio system, navigation with touch screen, eco mode, and more are there for the driver. The reliability of my car has been exceptionally good. In 3 years of daily driving in both severe winter and summer conditions it has never let me down. There have been recalls being addressed by Hyundai so make sure those are completed but other than that no concerns for me as the powertrain and build quality in general has been solid. Styling is subjective, but I still find the exterior design to be stunning and aging well. The interior is good and well built but there is cost cutting to be found in there if looking for it. Nothing inside should be a deal breaker as the ergonomics and comfort are extremely good and for the price you can't have crazy expectations for a midsize sedan. My major complaint is I wish the cupholders were padded to prevent aluminum cans from making noise and the piano black gloss trim bits are a pain to keep clean. Overall, if you are looking for a roomy, feature rich, reliable, powerful, economical(when driven as such of course), 4 door midsize sedan on the used market I would argue that the 2011-14 Hyundai Sonata should be at the top of your consideration list. There may be better cars, but for the price range that you can attain these at I don't think you would care.

My sonata

This is my first Hyundai, a replacement for my previous vehicle of another manufacturer which was totaled. My pre-owned Sonata has all the features and equipment I was looking for. It drives well locally and on long trips.

Wonderful car too many recalls.

We have owned 3 Hyundai Sonota's 2003...2009....2013. Our 2013 that I just love has had so many way too many recalls on it it is really scary. Our other combined did not have as many combined as the 2013. The recalls have always been taken care of and the warranty has been extended on some of the, but this last one on television about the Kia's and Hyundai's catching on fire is really scary. What has happened that the 2013 have had to have so many recalls, some were small things and others were more.

2013 Sonata

Five years of great service from my car. I love it. No problems with it at all other than general maintenance. I appreciate the 10 year or l20,000 mile warranty I have on it. I would purchase another Hyundai if needed but hope my will last as long as I can drive. .

Worst vehicle I’ve ever owned

I have owned almost every brand of car made and this car has been the worst I’ve ever experienced from engine failure to vinegar smell coming through vents that causes me to keep the filters changed regularly. I don’t plan on ever purchasing a Hyundai ever again!

Love My Sonata

I’m owner of a 2013 Sonata for five (5) years now and love this vehicle very roomy and comfortable. It handles very well on the road gets good mileage. Hyundai keeps you up to date on recalls and the dealership has been wonderful on accommodating when it comes to getting those recalls taken care of. First time owner and at this time I can’t say enough nice things.

Excellent vehicle

I have a 2013 Sonata 2.0 Turbo that I am the sole, original owner of. About 75k mileage. This is a great car; the only thing missing is AWD. Excellent pickup with the Turbo, no problems with merging whatsoever. Plenty of room in both the car and the trunk. I have nothing but good to say. Great gas mileage, Eco drive for traffic. Handles pretty well in the snow, but limited to front wheel drive. I hate to trade it in, but moved to a very hilly area and now require either 4WD or AWD, so looking at the Santa Fe Turbo. I have full tech package with in dash navigation, voice control, etc. and it is still better than many new options

Absurdly bad engine issues go on and on and on.

I love the vehicle, it's the best one I've ever owned, nice looking, comfortable, fun to drive, etc. etc. Unfortunately all this is ruined by the constant specter of an engine slash crankshaft issue that just gets worse and worse as more information gets out. In a nutshell there are multiple year, multiple model, issues including my 2013 Sonata, that put driving them at risk of having the engine seize on the freeway or on the streets. Apparently the exact same issue went of for years without being fixed at the factory. Inexcusable! The last recall did install some new software that is designed to give the driver at least a bit of warning before it seizes; a step in the right direction, but a new engine/crankcase would be the correct and ultimate fix.

Great car, great value

I have owned and driven this car for 5 years and 90,000 miles. It is a very reliable car, nice to drive. There have been a few minor recalls, but never a breakdown. Everything still works as new, great gas mileage, inexpensive maintenance.

Reliable and effective most important guarantee to a life investment . If I had to get another one it will still be a Sonata. This is my second Hyundai. The first was XGL 2003. I cry when I sold it to a friend. I want it back.

Must have Vehicle

The Hyundai Sonata is an amazing vehicle to have. Sonata’s are great on gas. I have no issues what so ever with this vehicle. I get my basic oil changes, filter changed etc. Also, Sonata’s accelerates very fast. So if you like the thrill of taking off sometimes, you would love it . Sonata’s are must have vehicles

Looks can be deceiving

The look of this car is the reason for the purchase. The inside very roomy and comfy. The tires are excellent and I like the fact that there is a slight tent on the windows. Keeps out the bright sunlight so that you are able to see. Don't think it save on gas and the steering column is not stable, feels like the car wants to do its own thing. Doesn't feel safe when I drive when it windy, rainy or snowing.

2013 Hyundai Sonata

The vehicle has been great, except once the car reached 100000 miles it has been burning ALOT of oil. Probably about 2 quarts every 3000 miles. Catilytic converter had to be replaced at 138000 miles. It was covered under warranty , if it wasn’t I would have gotten rid of the car because the cost was way to expensive
