Value and class for your money
I am on my third Sonata. Overall, I am very satisfied with my decision to purchase the 2021 Sonata SEL Plus. Starting on the outside, I LOVE the Hampton Gray paint, along with the gloss black trim/accents that come with this package to detract from the somewhat awkward styling of the side profile. The front and rear views of the car are definitely exciting for a car in this class, without trying too hard, and the lighting (LED) performs very well. Stepping inside the cabin, the fit and finish of the interior has always been a strong point for Hyundai. The safety and other standard convenience features are on par with the more expensive German and Japanese brands at a fraction of the cost, and everything works as or better than expected. The materials are higher than expected quality and the ride is smooth, comfortable, and (for me) the right amount of sport with the 19s (unfortunately, somehow Pirelli found their way into a partnership with Hyundai, which is greatly disappointing because they are only good tires in dry weather, and won't last more than a year (if you drive around 10k to 12k miles), which in a way I guess is actually good because you can replace them with two years left on a lease and enjoy something more cost-effective with significantly better all-season performance. I love the view from the driver's seat, and as always the front & rear seat and leg room surprises EVERYONE who gets in the car, especially during this past year where more people have been sitting in the back, which includes passengers at or over 6ft tall, and the trunk space has always been impressive. I wish Hyundai would go back to the 2.0T and ditch the craggly, laggy, unerwhelming 1.6T. I really think this motor does the car a great disservice. Also, I do not like the push-button transmission or the placement of the panel, because it blocks access to the wireless charger and small storage area (also FANTASTIC that this is available in a Sonata standard in this package). I also love the MyHyundai app. It works 8 out of 10 times, which is on par with most others in the industry, and has customizable pre-sets for remote start options, as well as other very cool features. Now all Hyundai has to do is pay the Apple gods more money to get them to release their digital key app, because when I had it on my android phone for a short time I REALLY enjoyed using it, but then I switched to an iphone :(
