The 996: Not an ugly duckling, but a real swan!!!
Okay, I know it doesn’t have the big headlights that we all fell in love with, but the 996 era cars are every bit a Porsche 911. The design was the complete reset that Porsche needed to transition to the profitable and sustainable company that it has become. Enough on that, the case model Carrera is the perfect blend of power, handling and beauty that makes a sports car special. It ain’t perfect, but the sum of its parts create a great driving experience. From the side and rear, it is beautiful, and once you get past the headlights and realize, they saved you $25K on the price, you will get over them! The cautionary piece is to only deal with well sorted cars with maintenance records and always get a prepurchase inspection from a reputable Porsche expert. The IMS isn’t the big problem it’s the bore scoring, don’t be afraid of it, just be informed.
