The Best Value in Sports Cars
I have owned three Porsches - one of each generation of the Boxster/Cayman (986/987/981). With each generation, they have become a bit more GT-like (quieter, better ride, nicer interior), but have also gained performance. To my mind, the Boxster/Cayman bridges the gap between the exotic mid-engined cars and the Miata, offering much of the performance, handling, and looks of the former at a price (particularly in the used market) closer to the latter. My 981 has had a couple of issues (an oil leak that turned out to be a loose oil pump bolt, and a coolant leak from a transfer pipe), and the electric power steering is a definite step back from the 987, but it never fails to entertain with excellent straight-line speed and razor sharp handling. Overall, the 981 remains a very compelling choice in the ever-shrinking sports car market.
