Just past 150,000 mostly trouble free miles - what more need I say.

Just passed 150,000 mostly trouble free miles. Other than routine and expected maintenance (replacing tires, etc.) this car has so far been remarkably trouble free. Except for needing to replace the ABS computer at about 135,000 miles (expensive) there have been very few and mostly reasonably cost repairs. For what is basically an econocar the 2010 Golf is quite comfortable and it handles like a much more expensive model - it is fun to drive. The old-style climate and media controls are blessedly simple. Lots of glass so the car is relatively warm in winter but you will need the AC on sunny days, even in the spring and fall. Alas, all that glass is in the front and on the sides - rear visibility in the hatchback is ok for on the road, but a pain in parking.

Good handling and ultra reliable, sips (not guzzles) gas on the highway

Maybe I've just been lucky but with over 12 years and 130,000 miles this month for the first time I had an issue (other than routing maintenance and replacements) when the coolant level dropped due it turned out to be from a leaky radiator. Other high points are very quick and precise handling and excellent (30 mph+) for a 2010 vehicle. Comfort isn't bad for an econocar but not at the luxury level. Rear visibility isn't great.

Good car

Overall a great vehicle if you can afford the preventative maintenance that needs done to it throughout its life. It’s a great commuter, and it’s fast out of the factory. It’s one of the most engaging cars I’ve driven. The vehicle grips the road around corners and with its small size it can do so faster than most vehicles. The car looks like it can’t do much, getting behind the wheel of one changed my mind. There’s no space inside the car though, it’s uncomfortable for four full sized adults to sit in there. Gas mileage is great until you floor it.

Almost the Perfect Car for Me.

I have a TDI which I bought used 8 years ago. The original owner bought this car with everything on it. In 2010 they were still building the Golf in Germany; a German engineered car built in a German factory. Although a compact vehicle, it has the solid build quality of a larger, more expensive car. The diesel engine, even after the "fix" to bring it into compliance with emission control laws, performs well (the torque at low range make it very quick) and still gives my around 44mpg on the highway. The DSG transmission is a dream. I could go on, but suffice it to say that the combination quality and performance render the TDI the all-around best car I've owned.
