Excellent build quality, even 10+ years later...
I have put nearly 135,xxx miles on this reliable car. Pros include comfortable interior with "leatherette" upholstery that has held up very well to kids and animals. Seat heaters were a well-received feature, and while it did feel small at times, we always had enough room if we were selective when packing. Fuel economy is a solid 23.5 MPG on average, and I don't often use it on long drives. Cons are few, but most interesting are the design of the rear door latch mechanisms and sunroof malfunction. The rear door latch mechanisms are also the rear door locks, and their position along the doorjamb and type of seals are of poor design. They are prone to corrosion, and the rear door locks no longer function on my rear doors. They have both already been replaced during my extended warranty period, which is also an indication of faulty design. The sunroof has less explanation, as it will randomly open a small amount at any moment. Literally any time the ignition is on, with no other input, the sunroof will pop up slightly. It will stay that way until I toggle the sunroof control dial open and then closed again. I've had several VWs over the years, and they've all had their unique 'quirks'. My Jetta is no exception, and I've really taken for granted just how good this car has been to me.
