Not Volkswagen's finest effort

Although I bought the first year of this model, the repairs and problems are greater than anticipated. The suspension system, in particular, leaves a great deal to be desired. There is no excuse for the coil springs, for example to break under normal driving conditions. The drive train is excellent, with plenty of reserve power in spite of just 150 HP rating. Gas mileage is a disappointing 20 city and 28 highway. Handling is sprightly, but cabin road noise over 55 mph is intrusive. The electrical system is quite good. The sound system is ok, not especially good, and there are no electronic navigation aids. With snow tires, it has surprisingly good traction in all but the very deepest snow conditions. The underside of the car car is extremely vulnerable to corrosion. Fixes are very expensive. I rate this car very average.

Solid!!!

Most reliable, low maintenance, gas efficient and FUN car I’ve ever owned. Hands down. The engine (a 2.5 L) runs like a Swiss watch - and has loads of usable, and fun, low-end tourque. For a car at this price point, the interior and features are WAY above the bar. The folding rear seats and hatchback create an impressive amount of space (holds two giant dogs comfortably!) and - with passengers - the back seats have and impressive amount of leg room for a compact hatch. Again, I love this car. It’s a 2006 and has been my daily driver to present (2020).
