When i got in touch with Insurance, they said the estimate for the work was over $7k. i asked the shop to send me the estimate and photos, and kept calling and asking 4 days in a row. They were always polite and kind on the phone, but kept making excuses and saying they would send at a certain time but not following through.
Meanwhile insurance send me the notice that they decided to total the car. Finally 9:30pm the night before i had to make a decision on wether or not to total the car, Bert’s send the photos & estimate - conveniently too late for me to get a second opinion.
I know catalytic converters are expensive in CA, but there’s no reason they should have estimated over $7k for that fix. they claimed things that were simply not true - like saying the oxygen sensor was severed when there was clearly no damage besides the actual converter pipe being cut out. I took the photos to another engineer/car mechanic afterward and he confirmed that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the car besides that one part being stolen. I’m sure there are some neccessary shady things that happen in the communication between car shops and insurance, but this totally screwed me over and i feel completely scammed. My car was in great condition and only had 108k miles on it…and now i have to find a new one.
Again, the people are lovely when you talk with them, which i stand by. But i got scammed :(
