Overcharged for incorrect diagnosis

My car wouldn't start so I had it towed to Sun. I told them my experience of getting the car started by jiggling some fuses and they got it started but then kept it for 4 days to make sure it started again because they never diagnosed the problem. When I picked it up I figured it would be minimum charges because they never did anything to the car but start it. Then I got a $340 bill, including $50 for parts that did not need replacing. I got a list of things that were wrong with the car. This car doesn't burn or use a drop of oil between oil changes and they told me that I have an oil leak and needed several other items fixed which ran into thousands of dollars. I'm 76 and know mechanics and they treated me like a woman who knows nothing about cars. I talked to some friends about my experience and they had the same experience. Also, I drove the car home and the car would not start. I called them and they wanted me to bring it back in and charge me for more of their crumby service. I went on Youtube, diagnosed the problem and fixed it for $50. I will never use them again and I suggest you don't either.

Happy with the work and service

I have an older car with higher mileage, although most of that mileage is highway driving. I needed to take a trip to the Midwest to deal with my brother's estate, and knew I would be bringing things back, so I couldn't fly out. I also knew there were issues with my rig that needed to be addressed. My shop for the last 30 years finally closed during Covid. I had heard good things about Sun and decided to give them a shot. First, Sun is great about communicating, and discussing options. The communications were by text, and phone, where I talked directly to the technician doing the work after they had done a complete diagnostic once over. Brooke also kept me apprised as the repairs were happening, saved me some money on a couple of major items, and was wonderfully pleasant and helpful. They have a pretty good warranty. My car ran like a new car when I got it back, and my trip to the Midwest was uneventful. My opinion is the techs are A+, customer service A+, quality of work A+. You might find shops with a lower shop rate, but if you want the job done correctly the first time, and understand that you get what you pay for, Sun really is pretty darned solid. Plus, if it makes a difference, Sun is really active in the community, and does a lot of supportive work for people in need. That also says a lot about Sun.

Replacement of thermostat

Took car in to get thermostat replaced. Had ready had a diagnosis test done. Ask them to only change the thermostat. They did a diagnosis test anyway the charge was $178 part was $28 Ended up with a bill of $700.Dont recommended you go to them.they did have my huhusband sign some paper work. So we were out of luck. My mechanic had retired when we told him he would have done for under $200 so be careful

Brook and Jeff G were amazing!

Took my Cadillac in for a misfire. Brooke was pronmt with the appointment, and got me in ASAP. Jeff got me diagnosed and quickly addressed the isssure. Brooke was extremely professional and attentive to my needs and I was in and out the same day. Can’t say enough about how much I love the service here!! 10/10 for everyone. I have been coming here for years and this will continue to be my go to shop. Thank you Sun!!

Excellent Work, Great Communication

Another great service visit to Sun Auto on South A in Springfield. The service advisors, Christy and John, are knowledgeable and communicate very well, including calling me with updates and answering the phone. The work was done ahead of the committed time and done right. The shuttle driver is great - Donna. For me, I need a mechanic shop that answers the phone to make an appointment, be ready to do the service when I take it in, have a shuttle to take me back and forth, do the work right, advise me on other issues with the vehicle. Plus they have a complete specialized diesel service which is key for me. Plus having a good website and computer system to keep records of past service. If this sounds basic, it is not, as I have tried other diesel shops which seem less expensive, but do things like not call you back, etc. I am confident, with Sun, I am doing everything I can to keep my truck safe for me for all my adventures.

I paid $150.00 for full diagnose on my truck and the report they gave me was the same report you get from Auto zone for free I am 68years old and I feel riped off

Immediate help; excellent service.

My daughter in law called to get a headlight replaced. They called back quickly and said to bring the car in today. I took the car in for her, Shane fixed it on the spot and they didn’t even want to charge for the part or labor. Incredible, old school service. Can’t thank these guys enough.

Great experience overall

Work quality is great and done by an actual diesel mechanic on my truck. Customer service is great - phone is answered promptly, service coordinators know their stuff, the shuttle service and drivers are outstanding. I also like the fact they are developing young people for the work. I tried switching for a while to smaller diesel specialists, and while the work was good, they just didn't have people to answer the phone, schedule appointments and provide rides. The only thing I would change about this appointment is they could have changed the bulbs on the markers and the center brake light they discovered while it was there. As it is, I have to take it back. another time.

Don’t waste your money. Junction city sun

Took my truck in told them something in the front isn’t right. It’s driving awful. They obviously never drove it more than 15 mph or they wouldn’t have said it’s mechanicaly sound. They told me my tires were too loud to diagnose it. If only they would have hit a decent speed and hit the brakes they’d realize it dives off the road faster than an Olympic diver. Then gave me a list of things that’s honestly were not a problem but one so I had them flush the brake fluid. Well. 15 miles later pulled into my apartment. Both front brake stuck and the rotors are too hot to even touch. I didn’t think it could get worse than when I dropped it off but these fellas managed to do it well. So 450 dollars later for fucked up brakes I’ll be going and doing my myself like I should have in the first place.

Great service on my Disel Van

I took an older diesel to Dave at Sun Automotive and he gave me great advice and was very frank with me. He showed me exactly what he was doing on a simple filter swap and did a diagnostic that ended up being correct. For the work he couldn't do, a fuel injection pump replacement, he set up a rebuild for me at Oregon Fuel Injection. At the other side of the desk Christie was just as helpful getting me scheduled when I needed and even helping me out on the price. I couldn't recommend them more than I do, well worth the time and money to have them look over your problems.

HIGHWAY ROBBERY

They wanted a $300.00 minimum to run diagnostics for a check engine light and alignment. This does not include any actual work! Randall’s in Eugene where I usually take my car has never even charged for diagnostics.

Peace of mind from afar

Chad at Sun Automotive in Eugene was incredibly helpful when our UO students car locks broke. He was honest and attentive when calling both myself (out of state parent) & our UO student. The repair work was done in a timely manner at fair price. So happy to have a place I can trust to send my student to for sound respectable, honest car advice. I highly recommend this company.
