I bought my Touring because an auto accident totaled my beloved Miata. I was in a bad mood and just wanted to get the most bang for my unexpected buck expenditure. I did a great deal of on-line investigation, comparison and dealer exploration versus a using a service like AAA or AARP. It became apparent pretty quickly that the Elantra was going to deliver the most value and I went for a test drive. Although it was significantly different from handling a Miata, I was pleased with overall performance and the design and convenience of the body was very desirable; the price was unbeatable. My Elantra is now seven years old and I recently visited some dealerships thinking I might get a new car. Frankly,I've come to love this car so much, I bought an extended warranty instead and expect to keep theTouring for another three to five years! From day one this car delivered excellent gas mileage, good handling , convenience of use, handling, sporty styling, and excellent basic features for the money spent. I have followed manufacturer's recommendations faithfully for service so maintenance costs have been predictable, but there has not been any emergent work needed and the car has never once left me by the highway waiting for help. I now have nearly 100,000 miles and it is going strong. The only drawback was that I bought a model off the lot and did not get some upgrades (mostly cosmetic such as leather seats); some of the very nice electronic advances also were not yet available. My brother bought a new Sonata in 2011 and my sister-in-law recently bought a new Elantra based on my high recommendations.
