Value, Economy, Dependability

This is my second EV. I had a Mach e previously. The IONIQ 5 is cheaper, more economical, and hasn’t given me a single problem in the 2 years I’ve owned it.

Best vehicle in a lifetime of car ownership

I've purchased over 10 cars for personal use in my six decades of driving. These have included a number of styles and manufacturers and each has been owned for a number of years and often passed along to other family members. Far and away, our 2025 Ioniq 5 Limited is the best and most satisfying of them all. Performance, features, styling, flexibility, quietness are wonderfully implemented. A quiet conversation can be equally heard by front and back seat occupants. Roof rails and our Thule rack let me easily carry kayaks, skis, or sheets of plywood. I love its flexibility. It is the Swiss Army Knife of motor vehicles! Our Ioniq 5 was one of the first off the line at the new Georgia plant and a mid-cycle refresh of the original design. To get all this right is no small task and I was prepared for at least a few problems. One was a creaking sound from the tailgate. That has taken awhile to silence, but our local Hyundai dealer has been very cooperative and persistent in resolving this problem. The 12 volt battery failed early and without warning. Hyundai upgraded it to a superior AGM battery. Both problems were warranty covered.

Great Car!

I love my Ioniq 5 after 14000 miles. It is extremely comfortable with a great ride. I only had one repair issue. The driver's door handle became unresponsive to the touch. A month or two later, it apparently fixed itself. The other is a design flaw. The blue lit controls for AC, etc are far too dim to be used in daylight without creating a safety hazard while driving. It really is a marvel and a huge step forward from a gas powered car.

Even better than my 2023 Ioniq5

Although I really liked my 2023 Ioniq5, this one is even better. I like the rear window washer. It seems to be better built, with no rattles at all; super quiet.

A little too fancy

This car is great in that it is very comfortable and that it works for us being electric. Some of the bells and whistles that I purchased it for, I rarely use. Some of the bells and warnings are overly sensitive. The heating and AC are not very robust compared to my Honda's. The mileage is great for around town usage.

Lots of fun to drive. Great acceleration! Needs to have a trailer hitch for me to haul a small trailer. had to keep my old Chrysler Town and Country to haul anything.

Almost Great

The car is pretty comfortable overall, and the tech is great. The screen and display overall is fantastic although the driver screen is not very customizable. The one thing that drives me absolutely crazy about this car is the much too sensitive automatic headlights. It is maddening when they flicker on and off and my screen inside the car dims along with it. This is almost something that will make me not buy another one.

Worry free performance is what I wanted and the Ionic 5 delivers.

Outside of one issue with the ICCU, I have not encountered anything else that makes me regret my decision. Performance, comfort, acceleration and handling is superior. Range is as advertised and with a longer trip it just needs to be planned out more than a gas powered car.

A Phenomenal EV Ruined by Baytown Hyundai's Service & ICCU Defect

When the 2025 Hyundai Ioniq 5 is actually on the road, it is a fantastic electric vehicle. The ride is quiet, the charging speeds are incredible, and the design is unmatched. Unfortunately, the car's potential is entirely overshadowed by critical hardware defects and an abysmal customer service experience at Baytown Hyundai. The issues began at delivery. The dealership completely failed to provide the standard charging adapter with the vehicle. For a modern EV, the adapter is a fundamental necessity, not a supplementary accessory. The situation escalated from an annoyance to a major problem when the Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) failed. The ICCU is responsible for managing the high-voltage battery and the 12-volt system, and its failure is a widespread defect across the Ioniq 5 lineup that can lead to a sudden loss of motive power while driving. After my vehicle threw the diagnostic codes for the charging control unit fault, it had to be towed in for a warranty repair. The car sat in the service lot for over a month. While waiting on backordered parts for a known recall issue is frustrating, the total lack of communication was unacceptable. For over four weeks, the service department held my car without providing a single proactive update. I was left completely in the dark regarding the status of a major high-voltage system replacement. This ICCU defect is serious enough that it has triggered a federal investigation and an active class-action lawsuit over allegations that the replacement units are just as defective as the originals. The Ioniq 5 is a great piece of engineering when it functions, but you are rolling the dice with the ICCU's reliability. Buy the car for the tech, but be prepared for a miserable dealership experience.

Amazing vehicle, and an amazing EV!

Hyundai did a lot of things right with the Ioniq 5. Amazing drive, comfortable, spacious and great looking, 800v arch.& NACS connector and REAR WIPER! Few things I wish they did differently. (1) Walk away lock for all configs is a must, with the door handles sticking out. (2) Allow battery SOC to be shared with Android Auto and Car Play. (3) Change the key fob!! It's huge and ugly as hell. Complete opposite of such a fine car. (4) I understand and appreciate the longer wheel base and the increased interior space, but God the turning radius sucks!

Hyundai Ioniq 5 - One year review

I do like driving this small SUV but there were 2 notable problems I've encountered during 1 year of leasing this vehicle: 1. The climate system is defective. The A/C will come on repeatedly in midwinter. Also, it will continually shift to "driver only" setting when 2 of us are in the car. We brought it in for service but they couldn't find the problem 2. The 12V battery became dead after about 10 months and the local Hyundai dealer made me wait 3 days before they could schedule the free repair. In addition to the above 2 problems, I'm quite concerned about the infamous reported problem of the ICCCU failing in these vehicles and the car stalling without notice. Fortunately this has not happened to us as yet but we are reluctant to take the car on long trips. Finally the electronic controls for finding and using a commercial charging station are confusing and not easy to use. Fortunately I'm able to charge our vehicle at home. I suggest you have a help line available to phone knowledgeable support staff who can explain some of the complex electronic controls. At the present time I was only able to find a phone number for someone to answer questions about the iPhone App.
