PERFECT Family Car!
We originally had a 2001 VW Passat, which we loved, but it had started to wear down quite a bit with age (especially small engine cracking and radiator issues). My husband and I are pretty eco-conscious and with a new baby on the way, we started narrowing our options down to a hybrid. We researched for a few months and determined that we wanted a Toyota Prius. After speaking to a few Prius owners and getting first-hand opinions and also talking with our trusted mechanic shop, we thought it would be the perfect car for us. Luckily we found a Prius for sale at a local dealership right when our Passat decided that it just wasn't going to make it another day. We were able to get it for a great price and have loved it ever since! It is excellent for a family car - the cargo area is HUGE (we are even able to lay part of the seat down and fit an adult bicycle in the back alongside our toddler car seat!) and the hatchback door size and height from the ground makes it incredibly easy to get things in and out of the back, there are minimal if no blind spots, and the gas mileage is unbelievable (we get an average of 45mpg). I feel safe no matter where we go, and it's a very comfortable ride for driver and passenger. We also take our dog on weekly rides, and the cargo area is comfortable for a large 75lb dog; there is a lot of space for her to move around in if she doesn't want to sit or lay down while we're riding. We've been considering purchasing another vehicle and will buy another Prius once we find the right one. We feel good by minimizing our carbon footprint while also safely saving money. Oh also, my husband initially was disappointed we didn't get a "zippier" car (he has wanted a Mazda Miata for years haha!) but once you switch to Power Mode, this car can really move!!
