Exceeds all expectations
I bought this Prius Prime "plug-in" Advanced in August of 2021 from Carmax with 7480 miles on the odometer and have owned it a few days short of two years as of today August 9, 2023. (It replaced my 2009 Honda Fit.) I hoped to lower my carbon footprint by accomplishing much of my local driving in zero polluting electric mode while still having a highly efficient hybrid for trips. As noted below, over two years this vehicle has far exceeded the EPA predicted 4 miles per kWh and 50 mpg. With my actual electric range of 36 to 38 miles I can do almost all of my local driving, with good planning, in EV only mode. I charge at home with a regular 110 outlet in my garage with electric cost at 2.4 cents per mile under current electric rates. (My local driving is mostly at 35 to 45 mph which is probably part of the reason for much higher than EPA predicted efficiency. Freeway speeds will chew up battery juice much faster.) On trips I also drive 65, or the speed limit, whichever is less. Faster speeds chew up gas as well--as much as 5 to 7 mpg if driving 70 instead of 65 by my one 60-mile distance test.
The "Advanced" is equivalent to the "limited" of later year models so has adaptive cruise control, automatic headlight dimming, automatic windshield wiper control, blind spot warning light, lane centering warning, automatic braking to avoid hitting anything in front or when backing up-- all of which I really like. Over two years it has also only needed oil changes, new wiper blades and tire rotations. I am extremely pleased with all aspects of the vehicle with the minor exception of the way the climate controls work which I have listed under Cons below.
